I thought I'd share some memories of Maggie from growing up with
Ryan in Viking Way.
I remember as kids, Maggie used to let Rob and I go round and
see Ryan on a Friday night when she had gone out. It started off innocently enough with a pizza
and a film but would quickly turn into us causing mischief and upsetting most
of the neighbours - that burglar alarm didn't stand a chance Ryan - ha ha. I don't think she knew all the things we used
to get up to while she was out - which was probably a good thing :)
Another time, sitting in the back of Maggie's car when she
was giving us a lift somewhere I was repeatedly reclining Ryan's seat in front and
then blaming it on Marlon. Maggie would tell
him off more and more each time - sorry Marlon ha ha :)
But the thing that sticks with me most was when I was back
from Uni once and hadn't seen Ryan for ages and wanted to catch him for a beer
one Friday night before I went back. I
walked round the corner from my mum's house and knocked on the door. Marlon opened it and said Ryan had already left
for a party somewhere but didn't know where it was. This was before everyone had mobiles so I had
no way of finding out. Oh well I
thought, I'll catch him next time I'm back and started walking home again. When I was half way round Viking Way Marlon
came running after me with the address of where the party was. Maggie had obviously asked Marlon who was at
the door and then realised I'd missed Ryan and sent him running after me to
make sure I didn't miss the night out. That simple act of kindness always stuck with me.
